Montegrappa Tertio Millennio Adveniente Limited Edition #0953/1912 Fountain Pen
SOLD $1,725.00 Sold: Mar 26, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Millennio Edition Fountain Pen I have been collecting pens, pen accessories, coins and limited edition bronzes for nearly 30 years and I have decided to downsize my collections and sell off nearly everything I have collected over the years. Please check out my eBay store The Next Phase for all of my current collection listings up for sale on eBay. For sale is a "used", but new-old-stock pen from my personal collection: A Montegrappa Tertio Millennio Adveniente Limited Edition Fountain Pen, Number 0953 of 1912 Produced with a Magnificent 18K Gold Medium (“M”) Nib. FOUNTAIN PEN has NEVER been DIPPED, INKED nor DISPLAYED! Listed as USED per eBay Policies, but Fountain Pen NEVER USED! Background Story: Tertio millennio adveniente (Latin for 'As the third millennium approaches') is an apostolic letter of Pope John Paul II, promulgated on 10 November 1994, concerning preparation for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000. In the letter, the pope addressed bishops, priests, deacons, religious and all the faithful. Montegrappa commemorates this with their Tertio Millennio Adveniente Limited Edition Fountain Pen. This one is #0953 of just 1912 produced. The barrel is constructed of beautiful, pearlescent celluloid, which gives one the impression of Renaissance-era parchment. Atop it lies the sterling silver and enamel overlay. The sterling silver overlay is a combination of Montegrappa's low relief (background texture engraving) and high relief angels, clouds, and window frame. The centerpiece is a representation of the slightly elliptical stained glass window. It has an outer frame of high relief sterling, and inner frames done in the same manner. In the center is a white-enameled dove representing the holy spirit with radiating rays and overlaid with incredible enamel work graduating from a golden yellow center to a deep reddish-orange at the outer edge. Around the centerpiece, angels hover amongst the clouds filled in a combination of white and sky blue enamels, playfully basking in the radiant light. The nib is a custom engraved two-toned 18K gold Medium (“M) nib mirroring the stained glass window centerpiece of the pen. The cap ring is a representation of the windows of St. Peter's Cathedral. The key-shaped clip is a masterpiece, the key of St. Peter, the symbol of the Vatican. The top is a dome of sterling silver, capped by a red carnelian cabochon. Italy's first pen manufacturer, Montegrappa, began manufacturing pens in 1912 in its factory in Bassano del Grappa - a picturesque town along the Brenta River, which flows through Alpine foothills in northeastern Italy. Utilizing natural celluloid and precious metals, Montegrappa combines traditional methods such as die-casting with more recent innovations as low-relief engraving to form their precious art objects. Whether they use colors reminiscent of the master painters or ornamentation suggestive of Baroque palaces, the Italian heritage and romance is infused into each product. The Fine Print: Please see all photos as they are considered part of the description of this listing (photos are of the actual pen and packaging listed for sale, I never use stock photos). If you have any questions, feel free to message me (but please ask before bidding or purchasing). Payment is required at auction end; I only ship to a verified eBay address and not to another location. If you bid and win the auction, then fail to pay me within 4 days I will cancel your order and ban you from future purchases from my store. Due to changes in EBAY policies regarding item descriptions, I now list all pens as "USED"... even if they are unused and essentially "new". I am a hobbyist pen lover, not a business, and do not represent any manufacturers nor am I able to offer any warranties. The only warranties offered are those of the manufacturer, which are subject to the approval of the manufacturer - considering most of my pens are older, out of production, models. I do not guaranty the quality of how the pen will perform. Most fountain pens, especially limited edition models, require some level of "tuning" for smoothness, writing style and ink flow. If they have never been inked or used, I have no way of knowing how they may perform. I assume no liability or responsibility for manufacturer's defects and I cannot assume responsibility for necessary costs incurred for repairs, tuning or shipping costs on pens. I have done my best to describe the pen accurately. The specifications I compiled from different internet resources. All pens are sold as-is. I have a 100% satisfaction rating as a Top Rated eBay seller, and I am proud of it and stand behind everything I sell! Note: Due to the expense of this fountain pen set, returns will NOT be accepted unless I materially misrepresented it in this listing. The pen will be carefully packaged up while a complete video recording of the process and the pen will be made to ensure no unpleasant discrepancies. A flat shipping charge of $99 will be charged for shipping to the lower 48 states. Shipping will be via USPS with full insurance and proof of delivery. International customers I participate in the eBay Global Shipping Program and as such customs and/or duties/VAT are automatically added in your total shipping costs. I am unable to combine shipping for multiple items purchased to international customers as the eBay global shipping program requires them to be sent individually. Note that if you have a recently opened international eBay account with less than 10 positive comments, I will automatically cancel your order. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
Note: This item has been sold and is no longer available. This page serves as a historical price reference for fountain pen collectors and appraisers.
